When furnishing a terrace, the first things that come to mind are tables, chairs, plants, and lighting. Much less often do we think about where to put all those items that inevitably end up taking up outdoor space.
Brooms, watering cans, potting soil, cleaning products, tools, and various accessories are useful, but not always pleasant to look at. And when they are left scattered between a pot and a chair, even a well-furnished terrace can look cluttered.
Fortunately, you don't need a huge space to find a solution. Sometimes all it takes is rethinking how certain corners are used and choosing the right containers.
What to leave on display and what to hide?
Not everything on the terrace necessarily needs to be hidden. A uniquely designed watering can, a few pots, or a basket can contribute to the decor.
The problem arises when items do not have a designated place.
Open bags of potting soil, detergent bottles, and small tools are among the things that most easily create clutter. It is therefore better to reserve a closed space for them, leaving only what blends into the environment on display.
A good starting point is to look at the terrace and identify the items that are used often but that you do not want to keep in view all the time.
Those corners of the terrace you never use
Almost every terrace has a corner that remains unused: the space next to a French window, a side wall, or an area too narrow to accommodate a table.
These spots can become particularly useful when looking for a place to store items.
A tall cabinet, for example, makes use of vertical space without taking up too much room for passage. It is an interesting solution especially for long and narrow balconies, where a low and deep container would risk being cumbersome.
Before choosing a cabinet, however, it is worth checking the door opening and the space needed to move around comfortably.
The problem of items that remain outside all year round
During the summer, it is normal to leave everything you use most frequently on the terrace. With the arrival of autumn, however, many accessories remain outdoors even when they are no longer needed.
Small tools, barbecue accessories, and gardening materials thus end up accumulating in corners or under tables.
Having a dedicated container makes it possible to avoid constantly moving things between the house, garage, and terrace.
You must, however, be careful about what you decide to store outside. Not all items withstand moisture and temperature fluctuations well: fabrics, delicate products, and water-sensitive materials may require specific containers or indoor storage.
Hiding items behind plants: does it really work?
One rather common solution is to place less attractive items behind large pots or plant arrangements.
It can work for hiding a garden hose or small accessories, but it is not always the most convenient choice.
If you have to move a planter every time you need to get a broom, that space probably has not been organized in the best way.
Plants should enhance the terrace, not become an improvised system for hiding clutter.
It is better to use them to create green areas and visually separate spaces, entrusting storage to furniture designed specifically for this purpose.
An orderly terrace is also more pleasant to live in
There is one aspect that is often underestimated: having fewer items in view changes the perception of space.
Unobstructed flooring, a few well-chosen accessories, and surfaces not occupied by items make the terrace more welcoming, regardless of its size.
This does not mean giving up useful items, but finding a place for each one.
A cabinet can gather everything that would otherwise be scattered across the terrace in a single place, also simplifying cleaning and maintenance.
TRE by LEMI Studio: a space for everything you do not want to leave in view
To meet this need, TRE was created, LEMI Studio's outdoor cabinet.
Designed for those who want to keep their terrace tidy without introducing typical plastic containers, TRE combines a practical function with an essential aesthetic.
With dimensions of 60 × 45 × 180 cm, it makes use of vertical space and offers a solution for storing everyday accessories and items.
Its metal structure and clean lines make it suitable for contemporary terraces, balconies, and outdoor spaces, where even a storage cabinet can contribute to the decor.
Because not everything needs to be left on display, but even what is used to hide things can be beautiful to look at.
